“The uterus is the women’s center. If her uterus is not in proper position and good health, nothing in her life will be right. She will be as out of balance as her uterus.” -Don Elijio Panti
The uterus moves around. Not in that wandering hysteria kind of way the Greeks envisioned, but it can lean and it can fall. The suspended placement of the uterus within the pelvic bowl helps the uterus to grow with pregnancy, but it also makes displacement possible. If the uterus is not in its proper place the muscular contractions needed for menstruation, fertilization and birth become more labored and uncoordinated. Malplacement also disrupts blood, nerve and lymph flow to the uterus and her neighboring organs. This can lead to painful periods, longer labors, difficultly with egg implantation, hormone imbalances, low back pain (yes the uterus is connect to the sacrum), recurring UTIs and much more. Displacement has many causes, including: trauma to the sacrum or tailbone from falling, wearing high heels, extreme exercise, abdominal surgery, difficult births, or inadequate postpartum recovery.
ATMAT uses abdominal massage, bodywork on the low back, sacrum and tailbone to gently move the uterus back into it’s optimal position - releasing deep congestion, promoting blood flow, and reducing inflammation. Pelvic stabilizing sashes (Faja’s), vaginal steams and herbal remedies created by Rosita and Don Elijo are also utilized to help to clear out congestion and promote the continuation of proper uterine placement.
